Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Lettervolt ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use our mobile application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
Information We Do Not Collect
Lettervolt is a fully offline word game. We do not collect, store, transmit, or process any personal information whatsoever. Specifically:
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal identifiers.
- We do not require account creation or login.
- We do not use analytics, crash reporting, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
- We do not access your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, location, or any other device sensors beyond what is described below.
- We do not transmit any data over the internet. The App makes no network requests of any kind.
- We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDK. The App uses Apple's native frameworks; any included open-source utilities (if present) do not collect data.
Data Stored on Your Device
The App stores a small amount of game-related data locally on your device using standard iOS storage (UserDefaults). This data never leaves your device and includes:
- Game progress: best score, total games played, completed level history
- User preferences: visual theme (light, dark, or automatic), sound and music settings, volume levels, screen orientation preference
- Game state: a snapshot of your current game session, allowing you to resume an interrupted game
- Music position: which background music track was playing last, so the playlist can continue naturally
This data is stored solely on your device, is not accessible to us or any third party, and is automatically deleted when you uninstall the App. You can also reset your game progress at any time from the Settings screen within the App.
Accessibility
Lettervolt is designed to be fully accessible to users with visual impairments. When VoiceOver is enabled on the device, the App provides:
- Full VoiceOver support with descriptive labels for all interactive elements
- An adapted game interface with a grid-based letter layout and dedicated control buttons optimized for gesture-based and keyboard navigation
- Spoken feedback for game events (words found, errors, timer countdowns) using on-device speech synthesis (AVSpeechSynthesizer)
- Periodic timer announcements to keep players informed of remaining time
- Magic Tap gesture support for quick word submission
- Keyboard input support for letter selection
All accessibility features are processed entirely on your device. No voice data is recorded, stored, or transmitted. The speech synthesis engine is provided by iOS and does not require any network connection.
Device Features
The App uses the following device capabilities, all of which are processed entirely on-device:
- Audio playback: To play background music and sound effects bundled with the App. No audio is recorded or transmitted.
- Speech synthesis: Used exclusively for accessibility purposes to provide spoken feedback when VoiceOver or similar assistive technologies are active. No speech is recorded or transmitted.
Third-Party Services
Lettervolt does not integrate any third-party services, SDKs, frameworks, or libraries that collect user data. The App is built entirely with Apple's native frameworks (SwiftUI, SpriteKit, AVFoundation) and contains no advertising, analytics, crash reporting, social media, or cloud integrations.
Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not share, sell, rent, trade, or otherwise disclose any user data to any third party, for any purpose, under any circumstances. Since the App does not collect or transmit any data, there is nothing to share. This applies to:
- Advertisers and marketing partners (none exist)
- Analytics providers (none exist)
- Government or law enforcement agencies (no data exists to provide)
- Business partners or affiliates (none exist)
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, this Privacy Policy will continue to apply. No user data would be transferred because no user data exists on our servers.
Data Retention
All data generated by the App is stored exclusively on your device. We do not maintain any servers, databases, or cloud storage that contain user data. Locally stored game data persists on your device until you either reset your progress within the App or uninstall the App. We have no ability to access, retrieve, or restore your locally stored data.
Children's Privacy
Since Lettervolt does not collect any personal information from any user, it complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) provisions regarding children's data, and similar regulations worldwide. The App is safe for users of all ages.
Data Security
Because no personal data is collected or transmitted, there is no risk of data breaches or unauthorized access to your personal information through our App. All game data remains on your device under the protection of your device's own security measures (device passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, etc.).
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
Your Rights
Since we do not collect any personal data, there is no personal data for us to access, correct, delete, or port. If you wish to remove all locally stored game data, you can either:
- Use the "Reset Progress" option in the App's Settings screen, or
- Uninstall the App from your device.
California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Right to Know: We do not collect, use, or disclose personal information as defined by the CCPA.
- Right to Delete: No personal information is collected, so there is nothing to delete on our side. You can remove locally stored game data as described in "Your Rights" above.
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale: We do not sell personal information and have never done so.
- Non-Discrimination: We do not discriminate against users who exercise their privacy rights.
International Data Transfers
Lettervolt does not transfer any data internationally or domestically because the App does not transmit any data whatsoever. All information remains on your device in the region where you use it.
Regulatory Compliance
If you believe that our data practices violate applicable data protection laws, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a competent data protection authority in your jurisdiction. However, we encourage you to contact us first so we can address your concerns directly.
